Traveling With Pets In Mexico
From the Dept. of State: "U.S. visitors to Mexico may bring a dog, cat or up to four canaries by presenting the following certificates at the border: (1) A pet health certificate signed by a registered veterinarian in the United States and issued not more than 72 hours before the animal enters Mexico; and (2) A pet vaccination certificate showing that the animal has been treated for rabies, hepatitis, pip and leptospirosis. Certification by Mexican consular authorities is not required for the health or vaccination certificate. A permit fee is charged at the time of entry into Mexico."
“Up to date health certificate and rabies vaccine...of all the times I've brought my dog down with me, I've never been asked for paperwork.”
”I have heard you need to get heath certs just in case they ask you.”
“Have to have a medical certificate for each animal that is current - some web sites say must be within 7 days, some say two weeks - not really sure what time period they need to be prior leaving States, but I took my two dogs down in May and was never asked for their papers.”
“You should have papers from the vet showing current shots and vaccinations, but I have never been asked to show them.”
“Make sure you have heartworm and flea medications for them - VERY IMPORTANT!”
“If you want them to have GOOD, high quality food, bring it with you...otherwise, lots of dog food in LB.”
“They have the same dog food we have in the stores. They have good vets here who can give shots, etc. There's even one who practices in Lost Barriles a few hours a week.”
"I just bought pet tags from TerrificPets.com, I haven't received my tags yet, but in all my research I found these tags to hold the most information. I have my pet's name, my name, my Mexico number, my Skype voice mail number and my email. The only thing I am missing is the make, model and year of my truck with license plate number. There are many extra lines, you can pretty much put anything you want on them. I recommend the large bone tag for the most space."
