Safe Driving Tips
“I used to carry some tools but I think the following car parts are even more important: radiator hoses, spark plugs, complete set of belts. Mechanics are inexpensive and if you get disabled on the highway, your best bet is to wait for the Green Angels. They can be a godsend. They work for the government in a truck full of parts, fluids, tools and two expert mechanics specializing in solving roadside car problems. They obviously can't always get you going like new but they can get you to the next town. If your car does break down out in the sticks, do not leave your car. As honest as Mexicans are, deserted cars are considered as 'open season' by enough that within a few hours, everything may be gone except the unibody without doors, wheels, windows, etc.”
“Lug wrenches for tires on car and trailer to be sure, and make sure you have a jack that works on the trailer.”
“We feel the stretch from Tijuana to San Quitin is the most challenging part of the drive”
“One of the best driving tips I can offer is never drive on Sunday afternoon or evening. Way too many drunk drivers.”
“THE MOST IMPORTANT ADVICE I CAN GIVE YOU IS.....don't EVER take your eyes off the road...not even for a second...only the passenger gets to gawk around...you must be diligent in this regard...be sure and have your brakes completely gone through before you start your trip; you'll need em....Always stay wide right on the turns; you never know when a semi or bus or beer truck is gonna come careening around the corner at you in your lane...it WILL happen..just be ready....slowly around the corners and on the steep downhill grades...you'll see the evidence of folks who failed to heed this warning...good luck.”
